One particular stretch of shore, deep in the armpit of Cardigan Bay, has become the final resting place for generations of lost soles. These soles, once fashioned by local boot and shoemakers, display long-forgotten skills as well as traditional materials.

Quality of 100 year old leather, still stout. Copper nails that glint in salty sunshine. Is this a scrap from an urchins boot, or the heel from a local land-owners brogue? I wanted to bring it to life, and gave it this beautifully sea-worked, highly bleached bird head.

The base is formed by two separate wooden items of contrasting shape, connected by colour.
